Boredom Series

It's no secret that I am not a fan of christian literature these days, or any popularized christian product for that matter. Though unfortunately, given my roots and the people I am surrounded by, I am always cognizant of the latest piece of self help garbage aimed at making us all feel good about getting rich, teaching us to embrace our inner barbarian in the wilderness, or instructing us how to create Walden pond moments where Jesus is an oak tree or a ferret or something. I have absolutely no interest in this cultural phenomenon, but I don't mind reacting to it for a bit of fun. I therefore propose my own series of reactionary literature that will be known as the boredom series, born out of my utter exhaustion at the never ending procession of crap that emanates from our christian bookstores. Here are some titles I'm considering.

I Kissed Boredom Goodbye
Boy Meets Boredom
The Boredom Driven Life
Blue Like Boredom
Velvet Boredom
40 Days of Boredom
Bored at Heart
Your Best Boredom Now
The Boredom of Jabez
Waking the Bored

Just some ideas, I'm sure there are many more to come.

I can understand why you are not interested in Christian literature, but not why you seem angry about it. Are you forced to read it? In any case, I like your list of possible book titles. I'd like to use The Boredom Driven Life in my blog or book! See my ThePowerOfBoredom.com

I'm right there with you Rick. I thought I was going to fall out off the couch the day I caught a piece of the price is right and the prize given away was a set of board games.... the one on the top was a Joel Osteen game....bluh

Letitia - feel free to use any material written here as you wish. The book titles are completely fictitious, as I have no intention of publishing anything of the sort. Also, please understand that there is not even a hint of anger intended in this blog, only a bit of perhaps overly esoteric humor. I meant to underscore the absurdity of the literature and poke fun at some of the best selling titles.

Shea - I found a copy of Osteen's game on Amazon, shall we make it the focus of house church one evening? (also kidding, Letitia)

On second thought, Letitia, I am a bit angry. Honestly, I am absolutely disgusted that the life and message this man called Jesus has been reduced so carelessly to a set of sanitized self help principles. I guess what I am saying is that there is more to Christ than Christianity, or at least the culture of Christianity. And it is that culture, and not the man that induces this total ennui.
